Want to imprint a face in SpaceClaim?
This is very useful and important when you have to prepare a model for FEA simulation for example.
Consider this situation for example:
You have a bolt which goes through 2 plates and you need to simulate that…
Problem: The bolt head need to be imprinted on the top plate in order to created a good FEA model
To make good mesh in this area for example or simply to assign contacts…
This “imprinting” process used to be tricky in the past in some other software that I won’t mention…
But in SpaceClaim, it is really easy to do!
Ok, now, here’s a 1 min video tutorial that I just recorded so you see immediately how to do it.
As you saw in the video, imprint a face in SpaceClaim is truly simple… and now only on the top plate.
SpaceClaim detects the other zones in which you may need an imprint and you just have to click to do it… I couldn’t dream better.
For those who like to read rather than watching the 1 min video, here’s the process to imprint a face:
That’s all it takes, really… 😉
If you are into FEA simulation, maybe you would be also interested to know how to check any mechanical design with FEA simulation, I have a free course on my blog FEAforall about it:
Free course: How to check any mechanical design with FEA Analysis
I will make also more space claim 1 min tutorials in the future about all the basic operations to create 3D CAD models.
Do you have something you would like to do inside your CAD software but you simply can’t find how?
(Even not in spaceclaim, can’t be any CAD software)

You will laugh when I tell you how to merge 2 solids in spaceclaim…
I make this video because I had to search for 20 min on google to find how to do it, and actually it was truly so simple that I wanted to bang my head against the wall for not seeing how to do it right away…
So, here’s the 1 min space claim tutorial:
The thing is that in most CAD or FEA software, this function is actually called “merge” or “boolean operation”… but in Spaceclaim, it is called “combine”…
And when you click on 2 solids one after another, it just gives you an error…
But anyway, not you know that you just to follow this simple procedure:
…and that’s all.
Easy enough, right?

Want to remove an imprinted face on your spaceclaim model?
Let me tell you how in just around 1 min…
Sometimes, you just want to do something really simple, but you can’t seem to find how to do it… especially when you come from another software and the commands and tools are different.
I decided to start this series of 1 min tutorials to explain some of the most basic stuffs you may want to be able to do quickly without watching 1h videos in details…
So here’s the first tutorial:
That’s the kind of operation that you frequently perform operations on models to prepare them for FEA simulation for example.
You know…
You just created a bolt and then imprinted it… but later you realised that you didn’t need that imprint…
But then you can’t find how to remove it ><
I have done exactly this yesterday…so I know how it can be frustrating.
That’s why I recorded this video so it will be easier for anyone else trying to do the same thing…
